9:00 AM - 9:50 AM
Building Your Brand in the Web 2.0 World! You have an online video show or audio podcast - or you're looking to start one. Deciding on the details of creating, editing and distributing that content is only a small part of the work. Getting attention for your show after it's finished is critical to having long-term success. Using Wine Library TV as an example, Gary Vaynerchuk will show you how he has marketed himself and his business with an extremely viral Web 2.0 approach. Inspired by social networking sites, Gary leveraged technology to reach an untapped audience for his brand and now attracts more than 60,000 viewers a day. Gary will show you how he has taken a completely unscripted and unrehearsed show and turned it into a forum for massive self promotion by carefully marketing and promoting it via Facebook, MySpace, Digg, Twitter, Pownce, and other networking channels. As a result of these Web 2.0 tactics, Gary has been featured by Conan O'Brien, Ellen, Time Magazine, Nightline, The Wall Street Journal, and other national media outlets. This workshop will detail the essentials of Gary's Web-oriented approach that has garnered national attention for his brand and his business.
10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
You want an engaged community. You want your audience to interact with your show and help spread the word. Then you get flamed. Then your feedback is filled with trolls. What do you do? Veronica Belmont and Tom Merritt have dealt with the best and worst of the online community and share their experiences and specific tips and tricks for dealing with a passionate audience. They'll tell you how to reward the good convert the bad and avoid the purely evil. You'll come away from this workshop armed with knowledge on how to make your community a better place for you and your listeners to grow your show.
11:45 AM - 12:45 PM
You want to sell advertising and sponsorships into your content, but it's not your area of expertise. Susan artfully covers everything you need to know to successfully pitch your content to an agency or marketer. Susan's candor and insight combined with running an interactive session make this a must-attend event. Learn how to find and engage prospects with a professionally developed pitch. Understand how agencies work with clients and exactly whom you should pitch. Walk through a mock introduction call so you'll know just what to say. Understand the client's strategy by asking the right revealing questions so you can craft a proposal that gets to "yes!" Review various forms of advertising and how to combine online and audio/video ads to create a robust sponsorship program that performs for your advertiser and shows ROI, even if your audience numbers are small. Learn to create value beyond CPM to maximize revenue. Ad units, standard rates and advertising buzzwords will be explained. Susan explains insertion orders, media kits, collecting and presenting demographic profiles, RFP's, proposal generation and invoicing. Most importantly, you'll learn how to be pleasingly persistent, handle rejection and keep motivated. You will leave feeling informed, organized and confident about presenting your show to sponsors.
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
In order to get your message heard online, it's important to regularly create compelling content that is relevant to your market. But what does it take to break through the noise, attract your target audience and keep them coming back again and again? In this session you'll discover three crucial ingredients for creating effective content that builds a large and loyal audience. The right balance of all three ingredients brings exponential success. Yet most show producers neglect at least one (and often even two) of the three ingredients. Using examples from successful podcasts and online content creators, Jason will demonstrate how to incorporate all three principles to form the right balance for your show. You'll also learn how to apply these principles to any web site or brand to increase market loyalty. Join us in this session and find out which three ingredients form the magic triad.
3:15 PM - 4:15 PM
Many great podcasts need more listeners, and gaining listeners is key to getting sponsorships. How do you gain listeners with little or no money? How do you do so without spending every free minute you have on your efforts? At this workshop, learn valuable techniques to build your listeners, build their loyalty and build the word of mouth \"buzz\" about your podcast. Learn free ways to promote your podcast. Learn how to be a part of podcasting's \"promo\" sharing network. Begin to leverage social media sites to build listeners and promote episodes. Take advantage of free \"virtual world\" advertising to reach an entirely new audience. Implement effective contests and participative promotions to create excitement among new listeners. Find low cost ways to promote significant events and reach over 100,000 people by doing so... Come to \"Build a Buzzing Podcast With Little or No Money\" and see actual examples of all these techniques and more!

9:00 AM - 9:50 AM
The WillItBlend.com Story: Successes and Lessons Learned. George Wright has managed to do two things on the Web that advertising execs worldwide have continue to dream about: launch a successful viral video campaign AND make money from it. In November 2006 George was walking past the blender demo room and found sawdust coming out of it. He walked in thinking there was construction underway, but instead found company founder Tom Dickson testing blenders by shoving two-by-four wood planks into the blender. The "Will It Blend?" video series was born and has increased sales over 400% as viewers tuned in to see everything from an iPhone to golf balls being blended. George will talk about what made it work so well and may even have a few surprise demonstrations!
10:30 AM - 11:30 AM
If you don't have a marketing budget to increase exposure for your content, it's vital that you learn how to leverage the power of influentials on the Web. First, you'll learn some of the key behaviors of the influential 10 percent (those consumers who tell the rest of the 90 percent of consumers what to read, watch, buy, etc.), and where you can find them. Second, you'll learn the best ways to reach and motivate this important group to evangelize your content. Additionally, through detailed case studies, you'll see how several startup publishers grew their audiences exponentially in only a few months by building widgets and unique tools, creating viral campaigns, tapping social communities, and empowering their most loyal users. Remember this: if you want an audience to come to your site, you must first go to them and lure them with a relevant and valuable invitation. After this workshop, you'll leave fully prepared to get started.
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Rob Walch has been interviewing people for his podcasts for years. This session will cover the tips and tricks he uses to put together a great interview that entertains and informs. It will cover both the technical side of recording and editing the interview and also the \"style\" side of interacting with your guest. You'll learn about doing interviews with Skype, over the phone and in person and using examples of different tools to use. He will also cover the style issues when doing an interview and how to get celebrities to agree to do the interview in the first place - including a discussion of the waivers and releases to use. Finally, the importance of editing the interview will be covered and why \"record, stop, post\" workflow is not a good idea.
3:15 PM - 4:15 PM
Tom will present new data from Edison Media Research on the composition of the audience for downloadable media (both audio and video). He will also provide brand new research on just who hears and sees advertising messages in podcasts, and how effective these might be. The workshop will conclude with comparisons to effectiveness measures for other media, data on the impact of sponsorships, and tips on how to target the right sponsors and maximize the effectiveness of their campaigns on your downloadable media programming.

Zadi Diaz and Steve Woolf are the minds behind (and in Zadi's case, the host of) Epic Fu, the groundbreaking video podcast about art, culture and all things Internet. Sunny Gault will interview these two new media mavens and discuss how they are building a loyal community of fans around their content. Find out how they are creating shows around subjects they are passionate about and at the same time, generating revenue as a business. Sunny will also ask them about their recent business developments and what they see as the opportunities for podcasters and online video creators in the year ahead.
11:45 AM - 12:45 PM
Everyone around you seems to be talking about sponsorships and selling ads within content to make money - but you hate selling and you wouldn't know where to start even if you wanted to. Plus, you've never felt comfortable being beholden to a company paying you for access to your audience. Sound about right? This session is for you! You'll learn a myriad of other ways to make money with your blog, podcast or online videos without cold calling companies to sell a sponsorship. From affiliate programs to paid syndication to Google AdSense, you'll leave this workshop full of practical ideas about how to make money without selling a single advertisement.

We continue to see small glimpses of pocket-sized, yet very functional projectors, but only as prototypes so far, with no immediate plans for a real product release in the U.S.  It’s as if the developers of these ultra-cool miniaturized projectors delight in teasing us, like some weird band of snickering technological sadists. For example, here is [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Ultra-tiny projector prototypes tease sales pros unmercifully", url: "http://sellinggeek.com/ultra-tiny-projector-prototypes-tease-sales-pros-unmercifully/" }); Jul 3

The UK tech blog The Register reported that Apple is developing a version of its popular iPhone with a “slide-out” fully QWERTY keyboard, targeted at corporate users, for possible introduction sometime next year, and in fact, has sent prototypes of this new design to mobile communication carrier partners for evaluation. If true — which is highly [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Apple: developing a slider keyboard iPhone?", url: "http://sellinggeek.com/apple-developing-a-slider-keyboard-iphone/" }); Jul 1
One of the essential principles of good selling is: people buy from people. No matter how much we might like to live in a world where buyers make purchase decisions without human involvement – or on second thought, perhaps not – the fact of the matter is that person-to-person interaction is a requirement for most [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Selling Geek podcast #5 - LinkedIn: the social network for business", url: "http://sellinggeek.com/selling-geek-podcast-5-linkedin-the-social-network-for-business/" }); Jun 29

If you are tied to the Sprint mobile network in the US, either by contract or by some weirdly unexplainable emotional bond, and you have iPhone envy bad, then you owe it to yourself to look at Samsung’s new Instinct, released this week at a bargain price of US$129.99 with a 2-year contract and a [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Sprint-bound sales pros: give the Instinct a look-see", url: "http://sellinggeek.com/sprint-bound-sales-pros-give-the-instinct-a-look-see/" }); Jun 21

Let’s take a critical look at what is arguably becoming the biggest “Web 2.0” fad. Since it’s inception in 2007, Twitter now serves over 1.7 million users, and that number is growing by over 2,000 new users every day, and accelerating. What is Twitter? Why is it generating so much buzz? And most importantly, does it [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Selling Geek podcast #4 - Twitter, what is it good for?", url: "http://sellinggeek.com/selling-geek-podcast-4-twitter-what-is-it-good-for/" }); Jun 15

We were afraid of this. When Apple demonstrated the cool new iPhone 3G, a platform bursting with potential as a hand-held computing platform, we wondered if they would behave in their usual iron-fisted manner about third-party applications. Apple has always zealously defended their devices — Mac, iPod, and now the iPhone — against wide-open enhancement by [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "We told you so: Apple limits third-party app capabilities", url: "http://sellinggeek.com/we-told-you-so-apple-limits-third-party-app-capabilities/" }); Jun 11

Other than educators, no one delivers more presentations than sales professionals. I’ve sometimes had to take important calls with customers as I was driving from one sales appointment to another, but I’ve always cringed at the impression I was making – with all the background noise, I’m sure my in-transit calls made less than a completely professional impression.
